Course Overview

This course is for anyone responsible for the company or site geological database.

This course is aimed for people who requires a refresher of the integrated DataShed data management system. The topics cover all the vital day to day tasks using the latest version of DataShed and MDS. It is an intense, hands-on course designed to present all the skills needed. It is assumed that participants have extensive previous experience with DataShed and database principles.

Course Itinerary

At completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Connect to relevant Databases
  • Create views to utilise assay results in a geological context
  • Understand how to manage user access to DataShed functionality and data
  • Understand the process of importing a lab file into the DataShed assay management system, ensuring all metadata and QC data is captured
  • Utilise the administration tools to manage the database.

The topics cover all the User / Administrator tasks and customisation of the DataShed database. It is an intense, hands-on course designed to present all the skills needed. It is assumed that participants are familiar with DataShed and basic database principles.

Course Itinerary

At completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Login to the Database as a User
  • Understand the basic principles of DataShed
  • Understand how to configure DataShed as a User
  • Know how to import non-assay data
  • Connect to relevant databases
  • Customise the database to reflect the commodities of interest
  • Create views to utilise assay results in a geological context
  • Understand how to manage users access to DataShed functionality and their access to data
  • Import a lab file into the DataShed assay management system and ensure all metadata and QC data is captured
  • Utilise the Adminstration tools to manage the database
  • Create objects within SQL with referential integrity
  • Create objects in SQL and add the objects to the DataShed system so that they are accessible
  • Export data into various formats
  • Utilise the Intercept Calulator
  • Utilise the Desurvey Module.

Day 2

Assay management systems

  • Overview of normalised assay management
  • Importing laboratory result files
  • DataShed normalised assay system configuration
  • Handling lab QC samples.

Day 3

Work processes

  • Summary and discussions of previous days training
  • DataShed administration
  • Basic SQL database administration tasks
  • TASK – Importing a drilling and surface sampling dataset
  • Question and answer session.

This is a hands-on course designed to present all the skills required to configure email notifications, MDS licensing and configuration and DataShed5 access. It is assumed that participants are familiar with DataShed and basic database principles.

Course Itinerary

At completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Login, Logoff and change your password to the DataShed5 Admin application
  • Configure DataShed5 Admin for first-time use
  • Configure and validate the SMTP email
  • Setup a DataShed5 Administrator, SuperUser and WSA_EmailNotifications user
  • Create a company and upload company logos
  • Setup a database connection
  • License a database and renew a license
  • Configure a database
  • Use the Database_Template to configure a database
  • Configure a Map View category with a symbol and colour
  • Create users and approve access to a user
  • Creating and configuring a membership to a database
  • Schedule an email or file subscription for a report, layout or scheme
  • Monitor subscriptions that have been previously sent
  • Schedule an outage for one database or for all databases.
